A revista estadunidense Billboard realizou no último Domingo, dia 31/01, a sua primeira premiação da música japonesa. Nomeada como Billboard Japan Music Awards e sediada em Tóquio, a festa das indicações dos melhores grupos e artistas do ano de 2009 contou com mais de 15 categorias.
Todas as indicações dos músicos japoneses foram baseadas no Japan Hot 100 do último ano, um ranking criado em 2008 pela revista Billboard e que é responsável por publicar as músicas mais executadas no Japão a cada semana.
Na principal categoria da noite, a de Artista do Ano, o grupo R&B EXILE faturou o prêmio. A votação foi feita pelos fãs através da internet e via celulares, tendo como base o ranking dos artistas que alcançaram o topo do Billboard em 2009. EXILE também faturou as categorias de Top Artista Pop e Melhor Álbum. Abaixo, seguem as outras categorias e seus respectivos vencedores, confira:
